Technical Sampling

Understand the aggressiveness of the soil before burying your assets. At TECNA ICE, we perform specialized physicochemical soil analyses to determine the potential for external corrosion, providing accurate data on resistivity, pH, and ionic content—all of which are essential for the efficient design of cathodic protection systems.

Description

External Corrosion Engineering: TECNA ICE provides soil sampling and technical analysis services to support the design of cathodic protection systems (CPS) and assess the integrity of buried assets.

Service Description

External corrosion is the main threat to the service life of buried steel pipes, tanks, and structures. TECNA ICE’s Physicochemical Soil Analysis service goes beyond a conventional geotechnical study; it is a comprehensive electrochemical assessment of the environment. We professionally collect soil samples to determine critical parameters such as electrical resistivity, pH, oxidation-reduction potential (Redox), and the concentration of aggressive ions such as chlorides and sulfates. These indicators allow us to classify the corrosive severity of the soil (ranging from “non-corrosive” to “severely corrosive”) according to ASTM G57 and NACE standards, ensuring that calculations for anode beds and galvanic systems are accurate and long-lasting.

Parameters Analyzed

  • Soil Resistivity (Wenner Method / Miller Box).
  • Acidity and alkalinity (pH).
  • Moisture and chloride content.
  • Redox Potential (Anaerobic Bacteria).

Technical Applications

  • Design of Cathodic Protection Systems.
  • Evaluation of galvanic corrosion and soil cells.
  • Technical Inspection of Buried Pipes (ECDA).
  • Electrical Interference Studies.

Consulting Services in Cathodic Protection

TECNA ICE combines fieldwork with specialized consulting. A poorly designed cathodic protection system due to incorrect soil data can result in insufficient protection or a waste of energy and materials. Our consulting services ensure that sampling is conducted at strategic depths and geographic locations (right-of-ways, gas stations), providing a solid foundation for selecting sacrificial anodes or impressed current systems. By relying on our external corrosion monitoring, your organization ensures regulatory compliance and maximum reliability of its buried infrastructure.
