Description

Geospatial Accuracy: At TECNA ICE, we combine integrity engineering with advanced GIS systems to accurately determine areas of potential impact, while complying with the most rigorous safety standards.

Service Description

Identifying High-Consequence Areas (HCAs) is a fundamental step in any Pipeline Integrity Management program. This process involves analyzing the right-of-way environment to identify populated areas, environmentally sensitive areas, or drinking water sources that could be affected in the event of a product release. At TECNA ICE, we calculate the Potential Impact Radius (PIR) and conduct a “land spill” analysis to determine which segments of your pipeline should be subject to enhanced inspection protocols, as required by international regulations.

Analysis Criteria

  • Calculation of the Potential Impact Radius (PIR).
  • Identification of populated areas and locations that are difficult to evacuate.
  • Mapping of ecologically sensitive areas.
  • Identification of navigable or potable water bodies.

Technical Deliverables

  • Segmentation of the pipeline by risk levels.
  • Digital maps in GIS format (Shapefiles/KML).
  • Regulatory Compliance Report (ASME/API).
  • Recommendations for the integrity plan.

Classification Methodology

Our methodology integrates the use of high-resolution satellite imagery, up-to-date demographic databases, and mathematical fluid dispersion models. TECNA ICE dynamically assesses location class and HCAs, enabling operators to update their emergency response plans and optimize the frequency of their internal inspections (ILI). This approach not only ensures legal compliance but also optimizes the use of the maintenance budget by focusing it on sections where the risk is truly critical.
