Description
High-Resolution Continuous Monitoring: The CIPS technique eliminates the uncertainty associated with test stations, allowing TECNA ICE to validate protection along every meter of the right-of-way.
Service Description
The CIPS (Close Interval Potential Survey) inspection is a fundamental advanced diagnostic technique for the integrity management of buried pipelines. Unlike annual measurements at fixed test stations, the CIPS survey involves measuring structure-to-ground potentials at very short intervals (typically every 1 to 2 meters). At TECNA ICE, we use GPS synchronization equipment and cyclic switches to measure ON potentials (with the system energized) and OFF potentials (instantaneous IR-free potential), which allows us to assess whether the asset meets the protection criteria established in the NACE SP0169/ISO 15589-1 standard.
Technical Capabilities
- High-precision GPS synchronization.
- Simultaneous ON/OFF potential measurements.
- Georeferencing of each measurement point.
- Detection of third-party interference and stray currents.
Value of the Results
- Exact location of under-protected areas.
- Identification of coating defects.
- Potential profile graphs for the entire pipeline.
- Data for risk-based maintenance plans.
Diagnostic Engineering
TECNA ICE provides CIPS reports that transform big data into smart maintenance decisions. A well-executed CIPS survey forms the basis of the ECDA (External Corrosion Direct Assessment) process, allowing for the prioritization of exploratory excavations and coating repairs. Our team has the expertise to filter out electrical noise and ground interference, ensuring that potential profiles accurately reflect the pipeline’s actual protection. With this diagnostic, your organization ensures legal compliance and extends the remaining service life of its critical assets.
What Sets Our CIPS Inspection Apart
GPS Accurracy
Each measurement is recorded with exact coordinates.
Analysis OFF
Error-free IR measurement to validate actual protection.
Continuity
We inspect 100% of the pipeline, not just isolated sections.
Integrity
A fundamental foundation for ECDA and compliance programs.
